When you visit a dermatologist, your provider may need to take a small skin sample, called a biopsy, to better understand what is happening with an unusual mole, skin tag, or possible skin cancer. This helps the dermatopathologist make the right diagnosis so your provider can choose the best treatment for you.
We understand that waiting for test results can feel stressful. At many practices, results can take days or even weeks. At Dermatology Partners, our goal is to make this process as quick, easy, and comfortable as possible.
Once your biopsy reaches the lab, it goes through a series of steps to prepare the tissue for review on a microscope slide by a dermatopathologist. One of these steps involves applying special stains to the tissue, which help ensure the most accurate diagnosis.
Because our lab is located within our practice, your skin sample is often reviewed within 24 hours. The sample is carefully examined by a board-certified dermatopathologist—a doctor who specializes in diagnosing skin conditions by examining skin cells under a microscope.
Our dermatopathologists work closely with your provider, so your care team stays connected at every step. This teamwork helps ensure accurate results and timely treatment planning.
You can feel confident knowing your personal health information stays within our practice. We take your privacy and security seriously.
At Dermatology Partners, our caring and experienced team is here to support your skin health—every step of the way.
