Educating fans one inning at a time, Dermatology Partners brings real-time sun safety tips to Phillies and Orioles games through live UV Index alerts in partnership with NBC Sports and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN)
Crack of the bat. Smell of the grass. A cold drink in hand and your favorite team on the screen — it’s baseball season, and the sun is out in full force. While fans are tracking home runs and diving catches, Dermatology Partners is tracking something else: UV rays. This season, we’re stepping up to the plate with a new initiative that knocks skin safety out of the park — the “UV Index of the Game”, now featured during Phillies broadcasts on NBC Sports Philadelphia and coverage for the Baltimore Orioles broadcasts on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) .
We know summer ballgames mean long hours under the sun — whether you're in the stands at Citizens Bank Park, catching rays at Camden Yards, or just grilling with the game on at home. That’s why we’re bringing real-time UV index alerts to fans throughout the region.
Through this innovative collaboration, fans tuning into games will now see the UV Index prominently featured on-screen of how strong the sun’s rays are that day - and offering a timely reminder to reach for sunscreen, hats, and shade — no matter where they’re watching from. The “UV Index of the Game” ensures you’re equipped with more than just a score update — you're getting a sun safety alert.
In addition to these updates, Dermatology Partners is proud to serve as the official “Play It Safe” sponsor of the game, with broadcast commercials airing throughout the season to reinforce the message of sun protection and early skin cancer detection. It’s all part of a shared mission to keep fans informed, protected, and in the game for seasons to come.
Because let’s face it — sunburns don’t belong in the box score.
“Baseball and summer go hand-in-hand, but so should baseball and skin protection,” said Marissa Cockrell, Director of Marketing and Communications at Dermatology Partners. “This partnership lets us reach fans in the moment they need it most — when they’re outside and often unprotected.”
The UV Index is a daily measure of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation levels — a key factor in sunburn risk and long-term skin damage. By integrating this index into game broadcasts, Dermatology Partners is making skin cancer prevention as routine as checking the scoreboard.
This initiative is part of the practice’s broader mission to educate communities and promote early detection of skin cancer, which affects 1 in 5 Americans. With a presence in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware, Dermatology Partners is committed to bringing sun safety and expert skin care to fans across the Mid-Atlantic — and now, across the airwaves.
So the next time you hear "Play Ball!" — remember: your team isn’t the only one worth protecting. Keep an eye on the UV Index of the Game, and make sunscreen part of your daily lineup.
