Baseball is more than a game—it's a community tradition. At Dermatology Partners, we’re proud to support our communities’ health by helping young athletes stay safe in the sun while doing what they love.
Through our Play Sun Smart initiative, we’re combining education, prevention, and community support to promote lifelong sun-safe habits—both on and off the field.
Why Sun Safety Matters in Baseball
From early spring practices to long summer tournaments, baseball players spend hours outdoors. That repeated sun exposure adds up—especially for children and teens.
Play Sun Smart, developed in collaboration with organizations such as Major League Baseball and the American Academy of Dermatology, is designed to raise awareness of skin cancer and offer practical tools for prevention.
We are proud to support this mission in partnership with the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation and the Mike Schmidt Foundation, alongside Hall of Famer and former Philadelphia Phillies player Mike Schmidt. After experiencing melanoma himself, Mike Schmidt has become a leading advocate for prevention and education—helping raise awareness of the importance of sun safety, especially for young athletes.
Together, our mission is clear: to ensure every young athlete and family in our communities understands, adopts, and practices sun safety—protecting skin health now and for the future.
Our Commitment to Youth Baseball
At Dermatology Partners, we proudly support youth baseball programs in our communities by:
- Providing sun safety education for players, coaches, and families
- Promoting healthy habits like sunscreen use, protective clothing, and shade breaks
- Supporting organizations that help kids stay active, confident, and protected outdoors
By investing in youth sports, we’re not just supporting the game—we’re helping protect the next generation.
Building Lifelong Sun-Safe Habits
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the U.S., but it’s also one of the most preventable. Programs like Play Sun Smart emphasize simple, effective behaviors that can bring a lasting impact, including:
- Applying broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly
- Wearing hats, sunglasses, and protective gear
- Seeking shade during peak sun hours
- Performing regular skin checks
These habits, when started early, can greatly reduce long-term risk.
A Community-Driven Approach to Skin Health
At Dermatology Partners, our commitment reaches beyond the clinic. Through educational outreach, partnerships, and local initiatives, we strive to improve skin health in every community we serve.
Supporting youth baseball is one way we fulfill our mission—meeting families where they are and encouraging them to stay healthy while enjoying the outdoors.
Join Us in Playing Sun Smart
